Bad to the bone or just plain bad luck.

I have written about the people living opposite us before, about the lice in the kid’s hair and running around in their pajamas at all hours of the day etc etc.

In the mean time they had another baby and that makes it 4 kids between the two of them.

So in the past few weeks we could see that things were really going down hill. People coming with trucks to pick up furniture and fridges and nothing new being delivered. They weren’t at the house very often so the place were empty quite often.

Well lo and behold – last week Wednesday the “Urgent Auction” sign went up. The people came and took the sign off. Now the guy from the auctioneers has asked us to report any funny actions to him immediately so being the nosy parkers that we are we phoned him. And now they were playing silly buggers with the sign. The auctioneers will put the sign up and the “owners” will take it down.

And then on Saturday a whole lorry load of stuff was moved onto the driveway of the house and left there. Huh now what – the people are not supposed to be in the house at all.

Sunday morning – car on the front lawn, wheels off, engine out – let’s work on the car. And leave everything just there on the front lawn but then it dawned on me – these are not the original people that lived in this house, it was squatters!!! Bloody hell – how quick was that!!

And now we have squatters living opposite us, working on their cars during the day and littering the lawn and the driveway with car parts, papers and whatever else and living by candle light at night.

Well they got an eviction notice from the auctioneers yesterday and this morning they were packing again.

But and this is now my real problem. A friend of ours are interested in buying this house and he went to look at the house yesterday. And he says that there is absolutely nothing left in the house, kitchen counter tops were ripped out, cupboards dismantled and taken away and the rest of the house is absolutely littered with any type of junk you can think of and where there is not junk your feet actually sticks to the floor because it is so dirty.

I have a lot of understanding for people that does not have work and are poor but surely being poor and out of work does not mean that you have to live like a complete savage. Where is your self respect to at least live in a clean neat house and not just destroy it willy nilly? Why work on your car and then just leave everything out like that – is it so much trouble to just pick it up and throw it in a bag? Especially when you have all the time in the world because you are not working. How can you sympathy for such people?

What I find even more mind boggling is that I went to school with the daughter of this family. She was completely normal and is now running her own business in Cape Town and they seem to be quite upstanding citizens of the community. The mom and dad was very involved in the church when we were younger and were also such normal people. How and where did this brother fell out and became such a menace to society?

Once again it is the question of nature versus nurture. What is going to happen to those poor kids of theirs. And what is going to become of the value of my house is this situation does not change quickly.

Soft hearted me actually considered taking them a hot meal last night but I quickly throttled that idea!!

And the sad thing is that the kids aren’t even in school so they have no chance to actually better themselves.
