I think I was mad on Friday – to actually look forward to the race I did on Sunday can only be because I lost my marbles completely. If I even mention it again next year please give me a virtual slap.
It was hot, it was hilly, it was far, it was never ending – did I mention the hills? Actually no – they were moutains. I think they can rival Table Mountain in Cape Town.
I’m not going to bore you with details suffice to say that I dehydrated completely, water that I drank could not reach my skin fast enough, I cramped and I was HOT (not sexy hot, but red in the face, sweat streaming down my body hot) and for lack of an English word – GATVOL.
What is the worst of it all is that my time was 2 minutes slower than last year and I really thought I was much fitter than last year. Sommer in the doldrums about my running now.
Today I’m not too sore except for my bum and my back and my arms. Strange my legs did all the work but they are not sore but the rest of the old bod is taking some serious strain today. I’m thirsty but the mere idea of drinking water makes me want to puke!!
Zoe went to the bird park at Monte Casino with Ouma – I should’ve joined them, but stupid me was running. And all I’ve heared since she came back from the bird park was about the bird with the sore foot and she was very very upset because there was nobody to look after him and help him. I’m completely amazed at the empathy she has for anything and everything. That is not something you can teach a child, I really think that must come from inside.
Another example of her empathy was yesterday when they drove past the motorbikes doing the toy run. She was amazed to see all the motorbikes with toys on it and last night she wanted to know if we were going to give toys to the poor kiddies as well.
The rest of Sunday I sat on the carpet playing Lego with Zoe. Well OK I admit I played Lego and Zoe supervised. I had to build “arm kindertjies” and the I had to build a house for them as well. Obviously the toy run was still on her mind. We then had to build a table and chairs and she fed all the lego children.
Why was Lego deemed to be boy toys when we were kids? I bought Zoe (OK maybe it is for me) a lovely pink Lego set for Christmas. I can not wait to play with it.
